Twitter starts testing Super Follows Content subscription, Ticketed Spaces features; to allow these users to earn money – Times of India

NEW DELHI: A recent online report revealed that Twitter will soon start monetising its Clubhouse rival — Twitter Spaces. Now, the social networking giant has started taking applications for a limited test if its Supper Follows and Ticketed Spaces features.
To recall, Super Follows enable users to charge followers and offer them extra content. Whereas, Ticketed Spaces allow people to host paid live audio rooms. Users in the US can apply for each of the programs separately via Twitter’s mobile app. Super Follows is presently available only on iOS, while Ticketed Spaces are available on both Android and iOS.

After scrutinising the applications Twitter will select a ‘small group’ of users to test both the monitising features. The Super Follows feature will enable users to charge $2.99, $4.99, or $9.99 per month for access to exclusive content. On the other hand, Ticketed SPaces will allow them to charge between $1 and $999 to access the live audio room and access other extra features.
Users can check their eligibility for the application by going to the new ‘Monetisation’ option given in the sidebar of the mobile app. Initially, the test group of the participants will keep 97% of the money they make using the new features. Then Twitter will increase its fee from 3% to 20% if a user makes a total of $50,000 on both the systems.
Esther Crawford, senior product manager, Twitter, tweeted, “we want to ensure that emerging voices are able to earn money, which is why they’ll be eligible to earn a larger share starting out. … Earning $50K+ from Super Follows and Ticketed Spaces shows that you’re getting value from these features and that they’re helping you make it real .”
This 20% commission set by Twitter is lower than other subscription platforms like Amazon, Twitch and YouTube. Amazon and Twitch takes 50% cut while YouTube charges 30%.
