Uttarakhand’s first all-women Anti-Terrorism Squad was officially inducted into the state police as a contingent of 22 commandoes. The hill state’s unprecedented all-woman unit received training in counter-insurgency, jungle warfare, weapon handling, tackling IEDs, latest operational methodology, the evolution of commando operations worldwide, modern weaponry and martial art form Krav Maga. Sourced from regular police and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) battalions, the squad is currently undergoing rigorous comprehensive combat training at Police Training Centre at Narendranagar in Tehri district. Concluding pre-commando training in Haridwar, the team’s first major assignment will be the upcoming Mahakumbh Mela 2021. The women commandos have also been trained in VVIP security on the lines of NSG. Notably, Delhi police inducted the country’s first all-women SWAT team for anti-terrorist operations back in 2018.
