Virat Kohli becomes top run-scorer in T20 World Cup history | Cricket News – Times of India

ADELAIDE: Virat Kohli‘s return among the runs at the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia fetched him another world record as he became the top scorer in the T20 World Cup history during India’s Group 2 match against Bangladesh in Adelaide on Wednesday.
When Virat hit his 16th run en route to his unbeaten half-century, he went past former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene‘s 1016 runs in T20 World Cups. This was also Kohli’s third half-century of this edition of the tournament in four matches.
Jayawardene had scored his 1016 runs in 31 innings, while Kohli crossed that mark in his 23rd innings in T20 World Cups. Kohli now has 13 T20 World Cup half-centuries to his credit.

Kohli ended up scoring 64 not out off 44 balls on Wednesday to lead India to a commanding 184/6 against Bangladesh, who had won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Kohli is now the leading run-scorer in T20 World Cups (1065), T20Is (3932) and IPL (6624).
