For those not in the know, Khanna was married to Geetanjali and had separated from her when he met Amrita. There was an age gap of 12 years between them. At that point, Amrita was engaged to cricketer Ravi Shastri but they did not get married because reportedly, Shastri had the condition that she wouldn’t act after the marriage. As per reports, Ravi had also told Amrita that Vinod Khanna was out of her league. Yet, soon after, reports were rife that Vinod and Amrita were in a relationship.
Vinod and Amrita had met on the sets of ‘Batwara’ directed by JP Dutta and she was instantly charmed by him. There were reports that they are going to get married soon but it was Amrita’s mother Rukhsana Sultana who was against it. According to the articles during those days, Amrita’s mother wanted her to marry a Muslim man, she was against her daughter marrying a Hindu man. She also had an issue with their 12-year age gap.
Eventually, Amrita got married to Saif Ali Khan who was much younger than her!
