‘Why I Killed Gandhi’ row: ‘I apologise if my role as Nathuram Godse in film hurt people’s sentiments,’ says NCP MP Amol Kolhe | Hindi Movie News – Bollywood – Times of India

Actor and Nationalist Congress Party MP Dr Amol Kolhe has apologised for portraying Nathu Ram Godse in the film ‘Why I killed Gandhi’. After facing the flak for playing Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin in the film Dr Amol Kolhe said that he doesn’t support Godse’s ideology and offered apologies if his role hurt the sentiments of Gandhiji’s followers. Talking to reporters after paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at his memorial near Pune, Kolhe said, ‘The film was shot in 2017. If the role has conveyed only one side- that of Godse- and has hurt the sentiments of many who follow Gandhiji, then I really want to say sorry to those who have been hurt. I have never supported the ideology of Godse and wouldn’t support it in future also.’ A while ago, talking about Kolhe’s role in the said film, Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole stated that it was up to Kolhe to decide what role he wanted to play as an actor. Patole said, ‘We will never tolerate any attempt to portray Mahatma Gandhi as a villain by trying to project Nathuram Godse as a hero. We have written to Maharashtra Chief Minister and Prime Minister Narendra Modi that this film should not be screened.’
