We are referring to The Lord of the Rings Heroes of Middle-earth, an upcoming mobile role-playing game from Electronic Arts. At the heart of the game is a new Ring of Power. How it came to be, we don’t know yet. The game hasn’t got a full-fledged trailer but just a very short teaser until now, according to which, we know that it will choose a character in the game. And that character is shown to be wearing the ring on his ring finger, and not the index finger. Apart from that, we just have an image of the ring and it certainly looks less evil than the one Sauron or Annatar made. But looks can be deceiving, right? In The Lord of the Rings Heroes of Middle-earth, you can play as a certain Middle-earth character and the game is built around team-based gameplay.
We do have some details on what the new ring can do, straight from Chris Salazar, the art director of the game. In the gameplay reveal video, he explains how the new ring is going to work.
In his own words: “What the ring does is that it grants the player the ability to bring the best characters, the characters that he feels best suit the battle that is going to happen in that location and somewhat, you know, push the bounce of the narrative canon and allow the players to experience the things in a new and fresh way.”

The game will have a story mode and that’s where we will get the answers to our questions about the new Ring of Power. Or, perhaps, EA will drop a new trailer showing some details of the story. How the new ring’s effects are going to work out in actual gameplay is yet a mystery. The good news is that the game has already been soft-launched in some countries like Brazil, Mexico and Spain. We expect EA to bring it to Android and iOS in more markets around the world by the end of this year or in the first half of 2023.
