YouTube rolls out widgets for Android: Here’s how to add them on home screen – Times of India

Last month, Google rolled out a home screen widget for iOS and iPadOS. Almost 15 days after the roll out for iPhones and iPads, YouTube is now offering home screen widgets for Android. The widgets enable quick access to search and makes it easier for users to watch videos right from the lock screen.
There are two capabilities: Search and Quick Actions. Search allows users to quickly “Search YouTube.” When you tap the text field, it opens the YouTube app’s search UI. You can now search for videos you are looking to find. There’s also a voice shortcut on the right side so that you can speak to search for a video.
The “Quick Actions” with the same search field in addition to offering one-touch access to the Home, Shorts, Subscriptions, and Library tabs/feeds. If you shrink the size of this widget, the Library tabs/feeds option is removed.
It is to be noted that there are two widgets available as of now: one with 3×3 grid size and other with 4×2. The widgets also follow Android’s Material You design language and take advantage of Dynamic Color.

How to add YouTube widget on home screen

  • On a Home screen, touch and hold an empty space.
  • Tap Widgets and search for YouTube.
  • Touch and hold a widget. You’ll get images of your Home screens.
  • Long Press and slide the widget area on the home screen where you want to place it.
  • Lift your finger and you now access YouTube from your homepage.

The YouTube home screen widgets on both iOS and Android look quite similar. Furthermore, YouTube widgets on Android come soon two weeks after Google completed its lock screen widget roll out for iOS 16 which includes Maps, Search, Gmail, and Drive, among others.
