Emraan Hashmi fondly recalls the impact of Anurag Basu’s Gangster on his career – Times of India

Emraan Hashmi has been successful ever since he began acting in films. For him to single out one of his films, made 17 years ago and recall it with great fondness makes the film special.We are talking about Anurag Basu’s Gangster, the 2006 film that has completed exactly seventeen years today. Many will recall the film not just for Emraan’s role, which received adulation from the viewers, but also for the fact that it was Kangana Ranaut’s debut film. It also starred Shiney Ahuja who essayed one of the key roles.

While the title of Gangster was suggestive of a cops and thugs kind of film, but this movie was actually a love triangle story, told masterfully by Anurag Basu. The story was written by Mahesh Bhatt. Kangana’s character had to make a choice between a gangster Shiney and her lover Emraan, a singer.

Emraan says Gangster remains a “special film” for him and he never realised that the “impact it would create would be so big.” For Emraan, this was his third collaboration with the acclaimed director and of course his connection with Mahesh Bhatt is well known.
