Sonia, Rahul also guilty of hate speech: BJP on Cong’s FB move | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Responding to Congress’s letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on hate speech, Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday accused Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi of having given hate speeches on several occasions in the past.
“Sonia Gandhi had said this is ‘aar-par ki ladai’ and Rahul Gandhi said ‘public will beat PM Narendra Modi with sticks’. Congress leaders should explain whether these were not hate speeches,” Prasad said at a press conference, reminding the Congress leaders of their speeches during the Delhi assembly polls.
He said Rahul assumed that anyone not toeing his line was doing so under the pressure of RSS and BJP and that was his problem. “People whose political base has shrunk like anything seek to dominate discourse on these platforms,” Prasad said and asserted that everybody, regardless of ideology, had the right to air their views.
Congress and BJP leaders have been involved in a bitter war of words following a report in The Wall Street Journal claiming that Facebook ignored its hate speech rules when it came to BJP and RSS members. He said hundreds of pages of BJP supporters were removed by Facebook. “If the platform is public, then every Indian regardless of his ideology and commitment has got the right to convey his view,” Prasad said.
Prasad said Rahul’s comment that the youth will hit PM Modi with sticks if he didn’t address the issue of unemployment was a “textbook case of instigation for violence”.
