Amid the standoff with India, China continues to consolidate its military positions along the LAC. A new satellite image shows that China is building a bridge across the narrowest part of Pangong lake in eastern Ladakh. Satellite imagery shows that the bridge is on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual control near the Galwan Valley region. Sources say the bridge is at a distance of around 40 km from the alignment of LAC in the region. Geo-intelligence expert Damien Symon posted a satellite image suggesting that the bridge will connect the north and south banks of the Pangong Lake. This will allow the PLA quick access to both sides. The bridge would reduce the overall distance by around 140-150kms. Indian soldiers had captured Kailash Heights in August 2020, thereby gaining an early edge over Chinese forces in the area. Over a 20 month-long standoff and stung by the Indian Army’s operations, China is boosting military infrastructure in that area. The Indian military sources said India has been developing infrastructure in all key areas along the LAC and that India is aware of Chinese activities in the region.
