NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday arrived in Ayodhya for the Bhumi Pujan of Ram Mandir. The foundation stone laying ceremony will mark the beginning of the construction of Ram Temple after a lengthy legal battle culminated in favour of the construction of the temple at the disputed site which housed Babri Mosque before it was demolished by kar sevaks in 1992.

PM Narendra Modi, along with Uttar Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel and RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat took part in ‘Bhumi Pujan’ at Ram Janambhoomi site in Ayodhya.
PM Narendra Modi plants sapling of Parijat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a Parijat sapling, considered a divine plant, ahead of foundation stone-laying of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. UP CM Adityanath was also present during the ceremony.

PM Modi arrived at 10th-century Hanuman Garhi temple before Bhumi Pujan. He was presented with a headgear, silver ‘mukut’ and stole by Sri Gaddinsheen Premdas Maharaj, head priest of 10th-century Hanuman Garhi Temple.

PM Modi arrived in a chopper from Lucknow and was greeted by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath. Earlier, UP chief minister had thanked PM Modi for coming to Ayodhya for ‘bhumi pujan’.
The ceremony
Invitations have been sent to 175 people, including 135 saints of 35 religious organisations, to attend the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Ram Temple on August 5, said Champat Rai, general secretary of Sri Ramjanmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust on Monday.
According to potters in the state, around 1.25 lakh diyas were ordered for the ceremony on August 5.
The construction of Ram temple will begin in Ayodhya after the ceremony to lay the foundation stone in which various dignitaries from the political and religious field are likely to participate.
Preparations, including a cleanliness drive and sanitisation, are underway in Ayodhya ahead of the foundation laying ceremony of the Ram Temple. People were seen cleaning the roads, markets and ghats.
